The detail
Upholstery in Audenshaw: the detail.
The pieces that finish a room
A lot of our upholstery is sofas, and Audenshaw sends us those too. What stands out in the M34 records, though, is the supporting cast: dining chairs, headboards, footstools and armchairs. These are the pieces that tie a room together, and they are also the ones people keep for decades because they were bought well or handed down.
Our job records include more than 40 jobs for M34, the district shared by Audenshaw and Denton. We describe the district rather than the town because the postcode does not split them.
Dining chairs, one first, then the set
With a set of six or eight dining chairs, choosing fabric from a photo is a gamble. Audenshaw is six minutes from the workshop, so the better way is to bring one chair to the showroom and hold swatches against the actual wood and seat shape. We supply fabric from the mills we buy from, so there is plenty to compare.
Loose seat pads are the quick version. Fixed seats and high backs take more work, and if a chair has a loose joint, tell us: it is easier to deal with while the old cover is off. Dining chair reupholstery walks through both, and how to reupholster a dining chair explains what happens under the cover if you are curious.
Headboards made or recovered
A headboard is one of the easiest ways to change a bedroom without buying a new bed. We recover existing headboards and make new ones to the width of your bed, plain, deep-buttoned, bordered or channelled. See headboard upholstery, or dining chairs and headboards if you would like the bedroom and dining room done in coordinating fabrics.
Armchairs and footstools worth keeping
An armchair that was bought well, or that came from a parent’s house, is often better built than a new one at the same price. If the frame is solid we can strip it back, renew the padding and recover it. Reupholstery and rejuvenation explains how we decide whether it is worth doing, and we will say so honestly if it is not.
Footstools are the smallest job on this list and the easiest to bring in. Recovering one to match a newly done armchair, or in a contrast fabric, is a small way to live with a fabric in the room before committing more furniture to it.
Getting a piece from Audenshaw to Grosvenor Street
Send photos by WhatsApp or through the quote form for a written quote, usually the same working day. Anything that fits in the car you can bring in for free. From the Guide Bridge side of Audenshaw the workshop is nearer than Manchester city centre, so bringing a chair in to settle a fabric choice is a short errand rather than a day out. For larger pieces, collection from Audenshaw is around £55 + VAT both ways. Most domestic jobs take two to four weeks.

Local FAQs
Common questions from Audenshaw customers.
- Audenshaw and Denton are both M34. Is collection priced the same?
- Yes. Both are within twelve minutes of the Stalybridge workshop, so collection from either is around £55 + VAT both ways. Collection is never free. From Audenshaw, though, the drive is only about six minutes, so bringing a chair or headboard over yourself is often the easier option, and that costs nothing.
- Can I bring a single dining chair over from Audenshaw to match fabric?
- Yes, and it is the best way to choose. Bring one chair to the Grosvenor Street showroom and hold samples against it. Once the fabric is agreed, the rest of the set can follow. A single dining chair is often back within a week; a full set takes longer.
