Upholsterer in Bramhall.

Bramhall shares SK7 with Hazel Grove and Woodford, about 28 minutes from our Stalybridge workshop. We do not get much work from SK7 yet, so we lead with photo quotes and straight advice: which suites and favourite chairs are worth recovering, which recliners can keep their mechanism, and which pieces would be cheaper to replace.

The detail

Upholstery in Bramhall: the detail.

A frame worth keeping

The question we are asked most about a good suite is whether it is worth recovering, and in SK7 the answer is often yes. A three-piece bought decades ago with a hardwood frame and proper springs will usually outlast anything flat-packed that replaces it. What it needs is new fabric, new seat foam and, sometimes, a spring or two re-tied. A suite with a board frame and staples is a different matter, and we will say so from the photos rather than take the job.

Our sofa and suite recovering page covers what a full recover involves. If you are unsure whether yours is worth it, our article on whether it is worth reupholstering a sofa walks through the same checks we make.

Favourite chairs and recliners

A lot of what makes a chair hard to part with is how it sits, not how it looks. If the seat has gone so soft that getting up has become an effort, new, firmer foam cut to the cushion shape can make more difference than a new cover. Tell us how the chair is used and who uses it, and we will suggest a seat that is easier to rise from.

Riser recliners are a common worry because they are expensive to replace. In most cases the lift and recline mechanism can stay. Our riser-recliner recover shows one done in the workshop: mechanism kept and serviced, the chair recovered in a floral fabric. Where a mechanism or a sagging seat needs attention, that falls under repairs and restoration.

If the chair belongs to a parent in Bramhall or Hazel Grove and you are arranging the work for them, deal with us directly: send the photos yourself, agree the quote, and tell us who will be at the house when the chair is collected or returned.

Headboards for the bedroom

Headboards are one of the easier pieces to get from Bramhall to Stalybridge in a car. An existing headboard can be recovered in new fabric, or we can make one to size for the bed and the wall, plain, bordered, channelled or deep-buttoned. The headboard upholstery page lists what to measure before you ask.

From SK7 to the workshop

Bramhall is about 28 minutes from Grosvenor Street. You can send photos by WhatsApp or through the quote form, and the written quote usually comes back the same working day. Most domestic jobs take two to four weeks once the piece is with us. If you would like to see fabrics before deciding, the showroom at the workshop has books from the mills we buy from and is open on Saturday mornings as well as weekdays. The pricing page gives typical ranges if you want a feel for cost before you send anything.

“In summer of 24, I had my dining chair seats recovered. Valley Upholstery did a fantastic job. A few months later, I decided I wanted a new suite, but couldn't find one I liked, so I went back to Valley and we discussed recovering my existing leather reclining sofas. There was such a lot of choice. John was very helpful and advised me of different materials I could choose from. I chose a very hard wearing product called Toro. Alan and Karl took one sofa at a time being very careful not to bang other furniture and wallpaper on the way out, and it was returned a few days later looking stunning. Amazing job! I can't fault them. 5* service. Thank you.”

Local FAQs

Common questions from Bramhall customers.

Can you recover a riser recliner from Bramhall and keep the mechanism?
Usually, yes. We strip the chair, keep the lift and recline mechanism, service it and recover around it, as on the floral riser-recliner in our projects. Send photos of the chair, its label and the handset, and we can tell from those whether recovering it makes sense.
What does collection from Bramhall or Hazel Grove cost?
SK7 is inside Greater Manchester, so collection and return is around £75 + VAT both ways, confirmed in your written quote. Bringing the piece to Grosvenor Street in Stalybridge yourself is free, which is worth considering for a single chair or a headboard.
Do you cover Woodford and Hazel Grove, or only Bramhall village?
All of SK7: Bramhall village, the streets around Bramhall Park, Woodford and Hazel Grove. Poynton, just over the boundary in Cheshire East, has its own page, because collection there is priced by distance rather than at the Greater Manchester rate.
