Dining chairs, one or a full set
Dining chairs are the job we would most expect from Didsbury. Many of the houses around the village and the Park have a proper dining room, and a set of chairs that sees daily family use wears through its seats long before the frames give up.
There are two kinds of seat. A drop-in seat lifts out of the frame, so it is quick to recover and can come to us without the chair. A sprung or stuffed seat is built onto the frame and needs the whole chair at the bench. Photos from the side and underneath tell us which you have. A single chair is often back within a week; a set usually fits within our normal two to four weeks. A sofa worth keeping
Sofas in Didsbury’s Victorian and Edwardian houses have often been chosen to last, and a good one is worth recovering rather than replacing. What decides it is the frame: hardwood with sound joints and a sprung seat will take a new cover and new fillings and give years more use. A frame of stapled board may not repay the labour, and we will tell you before you spend anything. If the sofa is sound and only the seat has gone flat, replacement sofa cushions are a much smaller job, and cushions can come to us in a car boot.
Footstools and matching pieces
Footstools, ottomans and occasional chairs are the small pieces that finish a room, and they are easy to overlook until the sofa next to them has been recovered. If you want a stool to match, tell us at quote stage so the fabric for both is ordered together. You can choose from the mills we buy from in the showroom at the workshop, or start with the fabric library online.
Stairs, doors and getting pieces out
West Didsbury terraces and converted flats can have narrow hallways and turning stairs, so for a sofa we ask for its measurements and a note about the route out of the house before we book anything. A piece that came in through a bay window may need to leave the same way. The sofa’s width, depth and height, and the width of the narrowest door on the way out, are all we need to plan it. Collection from Didsbury is around £75 + VAT for both journeys, and smaller pieces can be brought to the workshop for free.
