Upholstery in Failsworth: the detail.

Where Failsworth sits for us

Failsworth runs along Oldham Road and the Rochdale Canal between Newton Heath and Hollinwood, with Daisy Nook Country Park on its southern edge towards Droylsden and Ashton. It is part of the Oldham borough but faces Manchester, and our Stalybridge workshop is about sixteen minutes away.

We do not get much work from M35, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. The few Failsworth jobs in our records have been sofas, recliners and cushions. That matches what a lot of homes need: a chair or sofa that has stopped being comfortable, rather than a whole new room.

Recliners and chairs for older relatives

Recliners are often arranged by a son or daughter for a parent, so we keep the process simple: photos first, a written quote, and a date agreed before anything moves. Our riser-recliner recover shows the approach we take. The mechanism was kept and serviced, and the chair was recovered in a floral fabric instead of being replaced.

Where a mechanism has failed, a seat has gone through or a frame joint has worked loose, repairs and restoration covers it. We look at the whole chair, not just the part that has broken, and tell you if something else is about to go.

Seat height and firmness matter as much as the cover. A chair that has sunk over the years gets harder to stand up from, and a firmer seat foam can make a real difference to someone with stiff knees or hips. Tell us who uses the chair when you send photos.

Sofas and cushions

For a sofa where the seat cushions have flattened but the covers are sound, foam cut to size is usually the cheapest fix. We cut new interiors to the shape of the old ones, and hollow-fibre or feather refills bring thin back cushions back up. Most domestic foam orders are ready within a week.

If the covers are worn through as well, we make replacement sofa cushions to match the old shape. If the whole suite needs a new look, sofa and suite recovering starts with a frame check, so the new fabric goes onto something that will last.

Dropping off or collection from M35

Dropping a piece at Grosvenor Street yourself costs nothing, and cushions and smaller chairs usually fit in a car. For a recliner, a sofa or anything too heavy to lift, collection and redelivery from Failsworth is around £75 + VAT both ways, confirmed in your written quote. Most domestic jobs take two to four weeks.

Send photos through the Failsworth quote form, on WhatsApp or by phone on 0161 303 0769, and we usually reply with a written price the same working day.

“I contacted Valley via email for a quote for recovering 4 dining chairs. I received a quick response from John and made an appointment to view some fabrics. There was so much to choose from so the advice he gave was fantastic, he really knows his stuff. I wasn't in a rush to have them for Christmas but John contacted me to let me know a slot had become available. I collected my chairs and they look perfect, the stitching and neatness is amazing. If you are considering giving something a new lease of life I definitely recommend you contact Valley for friendly professional advice with no pushiness and incredibly good value.”

Local FAQs

Common questions from Failsworth customers.

Can a riser recliner be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?
Often it can be repaired. We have recovered a riser-recliner at the workshop with its mechanism kept and serviced, and our repairs work covers recliner mechanisms as well as frames, springs and foam. Send photos of the chair, its label and the fault, and we will tell you which it needs.
Is Failsworth close enough for you to collect a chair?
Yes. Failsworth is inside Greater Manchester, so collection and redelivery is around £75 + VAT both ways, confirmed in your written quote before you book. If someone can bring the chair to Grosvenor Street in Stalybridge, dropping it off costs nothing.
My mum's chair is too low and too soft. Can the seat be made firmer?
Yes. A firmer, higher-density seat foam makes a chair easier to get out of, and a slightly deeper cushion lifts the seat a little. Tell us who uses the chair and what they find difficult, and we will suggest a foam grade before quoting.
