Upholsterers in Stalybridge with a shop you can walk into are rarer than you’d think – Valley Upholstery has been on Grosvenor Street since 2023 and on Market Street for the twenty years before that. If you searched “upholstery stalybridge” or “upholsterers stalybridge”, this is the dedicated local page: workshop address, opening hours, and Google Maps directions for visitors and trade collections.
Upholstery in Stalybridge
Upholstery in Stalybridge is where Valley Upholstery has been rooted since 1978, originally as J.P. Hirst Upholstery on Market Street and now on Grosvenor Street since 2023. We are the local upholsterer most Stalybridge customers call first — for sofas, dining chairs, headboards, pub seating, caravan cushions and the occasional commercial refit for venues in town.
Our Stalybridge workshop and shop
We’ve been on Grosvenor Street since 2023 and before that we were on Market Street for around 20 years. The shop is open Monday to Saturday — pop in with a fabric sample, a photo of the piece, or just for advice. We don’t charge for advice.
Most Stalybridge collections are by appointment. Our regular customers tend to come in for one piece and then bring back the rest of the room over the following months — that’s fine, we keep your fabric notes on file so the next piece matches.
Local knowledge that still matters
The workshop has been on Grosvenor Street since 2023; before that the original J.P. Hirst Upholstery was on Market Street for nearly twenty years. That local knowledge — which estates have the tight stairs, which terraces the van fits down, and which customers need a hand with heavy settees — stayed with the business through the transition. We still get calls from people whose parents had work done on Market Street in the eighties.
If you’re on Trinity Street, Stamford Park, or the estates off Mottram Road, we’ve been there many times. Pop in with a photo or a fabric sample — we don’t charge for advice, and if the job isn’t worth doing we’ll tell you straight.
Pub, caravan and commercial work from Stalybridge
Stalybridge pubs and local venues are a core part of our week — we recovered the Black Bull banquette run in town and take regular hospitality work across Tameside. Caravan and motorhome customers courier cushions to us from across the UK; the workshop address is the same for trade and domestic jobs.

Customer proof
What customers say after the work is back home.
“We ordered some campervan cushion covers and curtains from John at Valley Upholstery and cannot recommend him enough!! If anyone is looking to get some upholstery work done then this is the place to come.”
“In summer of 24, I had my dining chair seats recovered. Valley Upholstery did a fantastic job. A few months later, I decided I wanted a new suite, but couldn't find one I liked, so I went back to Valley and we discussed recovering my existing leather reclining sofas. There was such a lot of choice. John was very helpful and advised me of different materials I could choose from. I chose a very hard wearing product called Toro. Alan and Karl took one sofa at a time being very careful not to bang other furniture and wallpaper on the way out, and it was returned a few days later looking stunning. Amazing job! I can't fault them. 5* service. Thank you.”
“A truly hidden gem! They recovered 6 of our dining chairs. Fantastic choice of fabrics. Really welcoming staff and are grateful for your business. Would highly recommend.”
