Good sofas, flat seats
The sofa that brings someone in Wilmslow to an upholsterer is rarely a cheap one. More often it is a well-made piece, sometimes a designer model, where the frame and fabric still look right but the seat cushions have flattened, or the back cushions have slumped into their covers. New foam cut to the original cushion shapes, wrapped and put back into the existing covers, is usually the answer. Unzip one seat cushion and photograph the inside when you send the pictures: it shows us whether the foam has simply softened or has started to crumble. Because cushions travel easily, this is the one job where Wilmslow’s distance from the workshop hardly matters.
When the whole piece deserves recovering
Some pieces justify a full recover: a sofa with a hardwood frame and a shape you cannot buy again, an inherited chair, or furniture chosen to go with a room that has been carefully put together. If an interior designer is involved, we work to their fabric choice and can suggest alternatives where a cloth will not suit a seat. A chair for the home office
Wilmslow station has direct trains to Manchester and London, and for anyone who splits the week between an office and a desk at home, a spare armchair or an old desk chair can quietly become the most-used seat in the house. A firmer seat, new foam or a harder-wearing fabric can make a long day at the kitchen table or in the box room a lot more comfortable. - Is Wilmslow too far to send just the sofa cushions?
- No. Cushions are the easiest thing to move. They fit in a car for a free drop-off at the workshop, or we can collect, priced by distance because Wilmslow is outside Greater Manchester. New covers and foam cut to size can also be collected from the workshop when ready, so the sofa frame never has to leave the house.
- Do you cover Handforth and Styal as well as Wilmslow?
