Workshop
Workshop process and detail.
Behind-the-scenes images from the Stalybridge workshop: fabric, cutting, springs, frame repairs, buttons and finish details.
About this work.
Everything pictured here is made or recovered at our Stalybridge shop and workshop. These photos show the stages a finished picture hides: a frame being rebuilt, new serpentine springs going in, seating boarded mid-rebuild, fabric chalked before cutting, and buttons made and tied by hand. The fabric showroom wall and the old Singer are in here too.
Most of a quote is decided at this stage. A sofa that looks tired may only need new foam; one that creaks may need the frame and springs put right before any fabric goes on, and we say which before you spend anything. You are welcome to visit during opening hours to see fabric in person, or bring a cushion in so we can open it up and check the foam with you.
