Riser recliner floral recover

Full recover of a worn riser-recliner wingback -- mechanism kept and serviced, new floral body fabric, plain footrest panels, finished in the Stalybridge showroom.

Wingback riser recliner fully reupholstered in floral fabric with plain footrest panels, photographed in the Valley Upholstery showroom

Riser recliners are awkward to reupholster well. The mechanism has to stay, the cover has to clear the footrest and headrest travel, and the finished chair still has to look like furniture rather than a hospital bed in a nice fabric. This is classic reupholstery and rejuvenation work with a mechanical constraint on top.

This one arrived in a tired red-and-cream plaid. The arms were worn through, the seat had gone soft, and the footrest cover had split – but the frame and riser mechanism were sound. That is the usual decision point: replace the whole chair, or keep the engineering and renew the soft parts properly – the same call we make on repairs and restoration.

We kept the mechanism, cleaned and checked it, and rebuilt the cover as a full recover. Floral fabric on the main body and wings for the look the customer wanted, plain coordinating fabric on the footrest panels and inner arms so the moving parts do not fight the pattern. Piping and seams cut to clear the pivot points so nothing binds when the chair reclines or rises.

Before-and-after shots matter on this kind of job. The “before” is what most people are living with and put off replacing. The “after” is what a proper recover can still deliver when the bones of the chair are good. More finished pieces sit in the gallery and on home upholstery, including the one-off police uniform wingback.

If you have a riser recliner, power chair or classic wingback that is worn but still comfortable, send photos of the frame and the mechanism via a home quote. We will tell you honestly whether a recover is the right call or whether the base has had its day.
