The detail
Questions people ask about hotels seating.
Guests notice tired furniture before management does: the lounge chair with a worn arm, a brasserie banquette that no longer sits square, a headboard that has lost its shape. We reupholster hotel furniture for hotels, hotel restaurants and guest houses from our workshop in Stalybridge, and the same fire standard and paperwork apply whether it is one lounge or the whole building.
The Townhouse, Manchester
Our clearest example is The Townhouse hotel in Manchester. We recovered 70 chairs across six seat styles, plus a curved booth run, for the hotel brasserie. Everything was done to BS 7176 Crib 5, one sample chair of each style was recovered and approved before the full order, and the brasserie did not close for a single service. The manager’s five-star Google review is quoted in full in the case study. If your hotel has several seat styles to bring into one scheme, that job is the best picture of how we work.
Brasserie and restaurant seating
A hotel dining room carries breakfast, lunch, dinner and the occasional function, so the chairs and booths are in use from early morning. We recover brasserie chairs in matched batches and rebuild booths in sections, in vinyl, faux leather or Crib 5 contract fabric. The detail for booth repair and per-metre pricing is on our pub and booth seating page, and the restaurant side is on restaurants and cafés. For chairs alone, see dining chair reupholstery.
Lounge and lobby chairs
Wingbacks, egg chairs, tub chairs and low-arm lounge chairs are where decorative fabric earns its place, and where it wears fastest at the arms and seat edge. We strip, replace the foam where it has gone, repair the frame and recover to match your scheme. Decorative fabrics that are not natively Crib 5 are sent for certified flame-retardant back-coating, which we allow extra time for. Chairs that look different but share a room are matched so the space reads as one design. If you are unsure how a decorative cloth will read beside a faux leather, the sample chair answers it before you commit to the full set, and your interior designer can sit in it too.
Bedroom headboards and chairs
Headboards are repetitive work, which is why they suit batches. A plain single or double headboard is priced low; deep-buttoned and bespoke ones are priced from size and finish. We recover them in a run, a floor or a wing at a time. Bedroom chairs and stools can be done alongside, so a room set comes back together. Single headboards are covered on our headboard upholstery page.
Rooms taken out of service in small batches
You cannot take a whole hotel offline, and you should not have to. We ask which rooms or areas you can release and for how long, then work in small batches: a few headboards and chairs leave, the same number come back, and the next group goes. Lead times depend on volume and on whether a decorative fabric needs treatment first. We would rather agree a realistic schedule at the visit than promise one that cannot be kept.
Crib 5 and the handover pack
Insurers, fire-risk assessors and licensing teams all look for the same thing: certificates showing the furniture meets Crib 5. We use Crib 5 fabric over combustion-modified foam and treat and certificate any fabric that is not natively Crib 5. At the end you receive a handover pack with the Crib 5 certificates and care instructions for your records and your housekeeping team.
What to send
A photo of each chair style, each headboard type and the booth if you have one. Counts per area, the periods you cannot lose, who signs off the fabric, and any brand standards. A hotel quote request takes a few minutes, or send the photos on WhatsApp. For venue jobs within about 15 miles of the workshop the site visit is free (further afield by arrangement), and the quote is itemised by area so it can be approved a floor or an outlet at a time.

Frequently asked
Common questions in hotels.
- How long does reupholstery take?
- Most domestic projects take two to four weeks from collection to delivery. Caravans usually run two to three weeks. Single dining chairs are often back within a week. We agree the timeline up front and stick to it.
- Can you reupholster our bar and pub seating without closing the venue?
- In most cases, yes. We rotate fixed bench, booth and banquette sections through our Stalybridge workshop a part at a time, and recover loose bar stools and chairs in batches, so you never lose more than a small share of seating at once. For larger refits across Greater Manchester we phase the work around quiet days, closure windows or overnight slots agreed before we start.
- Do you supply Crib 5 fire-rated foam and fabric for pubs, restaurants and venues?
- Yes. All hospitality, commercial and public-sector work uses combustion-modified foam and fabrics tested to BS 5852 Crib 5 (and Crib 7 where the spec requires it). We provide the test certificates with every quote and again when the job is signed off.
- Do you do commercial and hospitality jobs?
- Yes. Pubs, restaurants, cafes, hotels, offices, healthcare, retail, schools, colleges and universities. We work to fire safety regulations (Crib 5 where required) and around your trading hours.
- Are you fire-safety compliant?
- Yes, At Valley Upholstery, all our domestic upholstery meets British Standards BS 5852/BS 7176 for fire safety, and we also supply combustion-modified foam where the use case requires it. The cigarette and match tests required for home upholstery (often BS 5852) are critical safety assessments for upholstery fabrics, designed to prevent fires by simulating common ignition sources. A smouldering cigarette must not cause ignition or smouldering, while a lit match (or equivalent flame) held for 20 seconds must not cause sustained flaming. These tests are essential for UK home safety compliance. Commercial upholstery fire safety - fabrics in the UK must adhere to strict regulations, primarily requiring BS 5852 Crib 5 testing for high-risk areas like offices, hotels, and restaurants. Common materials include treated polyester, wool blends, and vinyl, which are designed to withstand smouldering cigarettes and butane flames.
- Do you offer free quotes?
- Yes. Free, no-obligation quotes by phone, email, WhatsApp, in shop or, for larger jobs, on site. Unsure how it will look? Send photos of the piece, rough sizes, and the style or fabric you have in mind. We will send a written quote with example looks so you can decide with confidence. Looks are a guide (not a guarantee of exact fabric match); final finish is confirmed in the quote.
