The detail

Questions people ask about social & working men's clubs seating.

We reupholster club seating for social clubs, working men’s clubs, Labour, Conservative and Royal British Legion clubs: concert-room banquettes, lounge booths, bar stools and chairs. We quote club work across Tameside and Greater Manchester from our Stalybridge workshop. To get a price, send photos and a rough count, and we will come and look for free before giving the committee an itemised quote.

Working men’s clubs

Many working men’s clubs are affiliated to the Club and Institute Union (CIU) and run by an elected committee with a steward in charge day to day. Seating usually follows the same plan: long wall banquettes in the concert room, benches and booths in the vault, stools along the bar, and stacking chairs for the floor. Concert-room seating is the big item, and the vault takes the daily wear. We recover both in Crib 5 fabric or wipe-clean vinyl, and we split the quote by room so the committee can approve it in stages.

Labour clubs

Labour clubs are normally run by a members’ committee, with a function room that is hired out for parties, wakes and meetings as well as used by members. That mix puts a lot of use on the room’s seating. Expect wall banquettes, a bar with stools, and stacking or upholstered chairs that are moved and stacked for every hire. We recover them in matched batches so the room looks consistent, and we plan the work around your bookings so hired nights are not lost.

Conservative clubs

Conservative clubs are usually run by a members’ committee, often with a steward or club manager, and many hire out a function room as well. Seating tends to be a mix of lounge booths and banquettes, a members’ bar with stools, and upholstered club chairs in a quieter lounge. Club chairs and settees can be reupholstered or have their foam renewed, and we can match the fabric to the existing room or refresh it. The quote is itemised by room for the committee.

Royal British Legion clubs

Royal British Legion clubs are run through a branch committee, and the hall is often used for branch meetings, remembrance events, bingo and private functions as well as the bar. Seating is typically wall seating or booths in the main room, stacking chairs for the hall, and stools at the bar. Stacking chairs are the usual job for a hall, and we re-seat them in matched batches. We schedule the work around your calendar of events and meetings.

Concert-room and function-room seating

The long wall banquettes around a concert room are usually the biggest single item. We price them per linear metre after a visit to measure the runs and see how they are fixed.

Most come away from the wall in sections. We take a section or two at a time, rebuild them at the workshop with new combustion-modified foam where the old foam has collapsed, and recover them in your chosen Crib 5 fabric or vinyl. The room never loses all of its seating at once. Where a run cannot be lifted out, we recover it in place.

Lounge, vault and snooker-room seating

Lounge booths, vault benches and the seating around a snooker table get the daily wear. They are often in wipe-clean vinyl or faux leather for good reason, and we usually recommend staying with it: it cleans with a damp cloth and hides the knocks.

If one booth seat has split and the rest are sound, we can recover just that seat and match it to the run. It is the same booth seat repair we do for pubs and restaurants.

Bar stools and the members’ bar

Club bar stools are recovered in batches, so the bar keeps enough seats every night, and the padded bar front can be done in the same fabric. Round pad stools, studded stools and high-backed stools are all priced each, and the price per stool drops as the count goes up. See bar stool reupholstery for the stool types we cover.

Chairs, in matched batches

Stacking chairs and club chairs are re-seated in matched batches so a room does not end up with three shades of the same colour. Seat pads that are only worn on top are the cheapest job.

Chairs whose frames have loosened are tightened and reglued first. We list that as its own line so the committee can see it.

Quoted the way a committee decides

Most clubs decide spending at a committee meeting, so the quote is written for one. It is split by room and by seat type, with fabric, foam, any Crib 5 treatment and the lead time shown separately. That makes it easy to approve the concert room this year and the lounge next year.

We can leave fabric samples for the meeting, and for venue jobs within about 15 miles of the workshop the site visit is free; further afield, by arrangement.

Fire safety and the handover pack

Seating in a licensed club is covered in fabric that passes Crib 5 over combustion-modified foam, tested to BS 5852. When the work is finished you get a handover pack with the certificates and care instructions, ready for your licensing, insurance or fire-risk file.

If the club wants a fabric that is not natively Crib 5, such as a particular colour to match the carpet, we have it treated and certificated.

Around bingo nights and bookings

Tell us the regular nights, the turns and the private functions already booked. We plan the work backwards from them.

Loose seats and stools go through the workshop in batches, fixed runs are lifted on the quieter days, and anything that has to be done in one go is planned for a day the room is shut. Sports clubhouses with a fixture list are covered on our sports clubs and venues page.

What to send

A photo of each type of seat and one of each room, rough lengths of the wall seating, how many stools and chairs, the nights you cannot lose the room, and who signs it off.

A club quote request takes a few minutes, or send the photos on WhatsApp.

Where we work

Club seating is done from our Stalybridge workshop, for clubs in Stalybridge, Ashton-under-Lyne, Hyde, Dukinfield, Mossley, Denton, Glossop, Oldham, Stockport, Manchester and Salford. A committee can ask for a site visit, which is free for venue jobs within about 15 miles of the workshop and by arrangement further afield.

Frequently asked

Common questions in social & working men's clubs.

Do you take a deposit?
For most jobs we ask for a deposit on confirmation, with the balance due on delivery. Larger commercial and contract jobs are invoiced on agreed milestones.
Can you repair a single damaged restaurant booth seat rather than recovering the whole run?
Yes. If one booth or banquette section has split, sagged or burst at a seam we can repair or recover just that seat and colour-match the fabric to the rest of the run. We will tell you honestly when a single-seat repair will look right against the others and when a fuller recover is the better call.
Can you recover our clubhouse or stand seating without closing on a match day?
Yes. Send us the fixture list and any function bookings and we plan the work backwards from them. Loose chairs, stools and stadium seat shells go through the Stalybridge workshop in batches, so half the seating is always in place. Fixed runs in the members' bar are recovered in sections or in situ across quiet weekdays. A full stand is planned across the close season or a run of away fixtures.
Can you quote in a way our club committee can sign off?
Yes. The written quote is itemised by seat type: the concert-room wall seating by the metre, the lounge chairs and bar stools each, and fabric, foam and any Crib 5 treatment as their own lines. That lets a committee do the worst room first and the rest next year without asking for a new price. We can lend fabric samples for the meeting, and for venue jobs we will come and look before the final figure, free of charge.
Do you supply Crib 5 fire-rated foam and fabric for pubs, restaurants and venues?
Yes. All hospitality, commercial and public-sector work uses combustion-modified foam and fabrics tested to BS 5852 Crib 5 (and Crib 7 where the spec requires it). We provide the test certificates with every quote and again when the job is signed off.
Do you offer free quotes?
Yes. Free, no-obligation quotes by phone, email, WhatsApp, in shop or, for larger jobs, on site. Unsure how it will look? Send photos of the piece, rough sizes, and the style or fabric you have in mind. We will send a written quote with example looks so you can decide with confidence. Looks are a guide (not a guarantee of exact fabric match); final finish is confirmed in the quote.

Club seating split, sagging or past it?

Send photos and a rough count. We will come and look, then give the committee an itemised price it can vote on.
