Bar stools wear at the front edge, split on the seam and go shiny where people slide on and off. Replacing them means a set that does not match the kitchen or the bar; recovering them keeps the frame and gives you the fabric you want. We recover bar stools in our Stalybridge workshop for kitchens across Greater Manchester and for pubs, hotels, cafes, barbers and clubs across the North-West, priced per stool with quantity bands. Recent work includes four stools changed from vinyl to fabric for a home, three high-back stools recovered from pink to red, and the Townhouse Hotel breakfast bar chairs in numbers. Breakfast bar and kitchen island stools
Breakfast bar stools are usually two to four, and the job is to make them match the kitchen again. Round and square pads are recovered from around £55 each plus fabric and VAT, in a wipe-clean vinyl or faux leather that takes spills, or a fabric if the stools live in a dining space. Sets are done together so the grain and colour match, and we check the swivel or gas lift while the seat is off. A typical set of two to four stools comes to somewhere between £100 and £300 in labour, plus the fabric.
Pub, hotel and cafe bar stools
Pub bar stools come in tens and thirties, and the price per stool drops with the count, so thirty cost noticeably less each than three. We recover them in Crib 5 contract vinyl or fabric with certificates for your file, in batches so the bar is never short of stools, and we colour-match a single replacement to the rest of the row. High-back and fully upholstered stools
High-back stools, counter chairs and fully upholstered bar chairs are priced as seat and back, from around £85 each plus fabric and VAT, less per stool in batches. The back is stripped and rebuilt the same as a dining chair, so a set of eight around a hotel breakfast bar comes back looking like one order rather than eight repairs.
Studded edges and stud work
Studded edges are recovered with the studs lifted and re-nailed, from around £60 each. Adding stud work to a plain stool is quoted per stool, hand-nailed. Brass, antique bronze and pewter studs are stocked.
Bases, swivels and gas lifts
A recover on a stool that wobbles is money wasted, so we check the base when the seat comes off. Loose seat bolts and worn swivel plates are fixed with the recover; a sunk gas lift is replaced where a part is available, and we will tell you if the base is beyond saving before you spend on fabric.

- How long does reupholstery take?
- Most domestic projects take two to four weeks from collection to delivery. Caravans usually run two to three weeks. Single dining chairs are often back within a week. We agree the timeline up front and stick to it.
- Can I choose any fabric or leather?
- You can choose from hundreds of fabrics and leathers in our Stalybridge showroom — Cristina Marrone, Rosemount Fabrics, Ross Fabrics, Sunbury Designs, Warwick, Wemyss, Agua, Futura Leathers, Crest Leather, Nene Valley Leathers and more — priced from about £15 per metre to around £120 per metre.
- Can you reupholster our bar and pub seating without closing the venue?
- In most cases, yes. We rotate fixed bench, booth and banquette sections through our Stalybridge workshop a part at a time, and recover loose bar stools and chairs in batches, so you never lose more than a small share of seating at once. For larger refits across Greater Manchester we phase the work around quiet days, closure windows or overnight slots agreed before we start.
- Can you fix a wobbly or seized bar stool while you recover it?
- Usually. Loose seat bolts, worn swivel plates and gas-lift stools that have sunk are common on stools that have done a few years in a bar or kitchen. We check the base when the seat comes off and quote the fix with the recover, or tell you if the base is beyond saving so you are not paying to cover a stool that will not stand up.
- Do you supply Crib 5 fire-rated foam and fabric for pubs, restaurants and venues?
- Yes. All hospitality, commercial and public-sector work uses combustion-modified foam and fabrics tested to BS 5852 Crib 5 (and Crib 7 where the spec requires it). We provide the test certificates with every quote and again when the job is signed off.
- Do you offer free quotes?
