## What we cover.

- Kitchen bench and breakfast-nook cushions to your joiner's boards or your sizes
- Window seat and bay-window cushions, single or in sections
- Fixed seating and banquettes recovered in situ or lifted out in sections
- Box cushions with zips, piping, ties and a lining underneath so they sit still
- Firm high-resilience foam cut to size, with a softer wrap where you want it
- Hard-wearing weaves and wipe-clean fabrics for kitchens, contract fabric for cafes
- Quoted from a photo and the seat measurements, usually the same day

Bench seats are the most common thing people ask us to make from scratch. A joiner builds a kitchen bench, a bay window gets a seat, a breakfast nook gets an L of fixed seating, and then it needs a cushion that fits exactly, sits still and survives a family. We make bench seat cushions , window seat cushions and banquette cushions to measure in our Stalybridge workshop for homes across Greater Manchester, and we recover fixed seating that is already there. Send a photo and the sizes via a quote and we will price it the same day.

## Kitchen bench and breakfast-nook cushions

Kitchen bench cushions take meals, homework, children and the dog. We cut a firm high-resilience foam to the seat, usually three inches for a bench you eat at, and cover it in a hard-wearing weave or a wipe-clean fabric that looks like cloth and cleans like vinyl. Covers get a zip, piping if you want it, and a lining underneath so the cushion does not walk. If your joiner is building the bench, ask them to make boards that fit the seat and we foam and cover those boards; the result sits square with no gaps. See our bench and joiner boards FAQ for what to send.

## Window seat and bay-window cushions

A window seat cushion is priced by size, from around £55 for a small seat to around £120 for a large or bay-window seat, plus foam and fabric. Bay windows are made in sections that meet on the angle, so the cushion follows the window rather than bridging it. Two inches of foam suits a seat for reading; go to three if it doubles as dining. Add scatter cushions in the same fabric or a contrast and the seat is finished.

## Fixed seating and banquettes in homes

Built-in seating that cannot come out is recovered in situ, or lifted out in sections and returned. Fixed seating is priced per linear metre, roughly £110 to £260 per metre depending on whether the backs are done and how they are finished. New foam goes on where the old has flattened. This is the same construction we use for pub seating , built for a home.

## For cafes, bakeries, bars and hotels

Cafe and bakery benches, restaurant banquettes, a hotel breakfast room and a barber’s waiting bench all run on the same per-metre pricing, in Crib 5 contract fabric with the certificates for your file, and are phased so you keep trading. Recent trade work includes seat pads for a Manchester bakery and a kitchen banquette for a trade account . See hospitality and salons and barbers for the venue side, or send photos via a [commercial quote](https://www.valleyupholstery.co.uk/quote?audience=commercial).

## Foam, fabric and fit

Foam is cut to size in the grade the seat needs, with a fibre or polyester wrap where you want a softer edge. Fabric is yours or ours; we stock twelve suppliers’ ranges in the showroom and post samples. Covers are zipped so they come off for cleaning, and ties or a non-slip lining keep them in place. Conservatory and garden-room seats get dryfast foam and an outdoor fabric; see garden and outdoor cushions .

Working with us

## How it works.

- 1 ### Photo and sizes Send a photo of the bench or window seat and the internal measurements: length, depth and how thick you want the cushion. If a joiner is making boards, send those instead.
- 2 ### Foam and fabric We pick a foam grade for how the seat is used and send fabric samples. Kitchen benches get wipe-clean or hard-wearing weaves; window seats can go softer.
- 3 ### Cut and cover Foam cut to the board or the sizes, wrapped where you want a softer edge, covered with a zip and a lining underneath so the cushion sits still.
- 4 ### Collect or fit Collect from the Stalybridge workshop, or we deliver and fit. Fixed seating is recovered in situ where lifting it out is impractical.

Frequently asked

## Common questions about this service.

How long does reupholstery take? Most domestic projects take two to four weeks from collection to delivery. Caravans usually run two to three weeks. Single dining chairs are often back within a week. We agree the timeline up front and stick to it. Can I choose any fabric or leather? You can choose from hundreds of fabrics and leathers in our Stalybridge showroom — Cristina Marrone, Rosemount Fabrics, Ross Fabrics, Sunbury Designs, Warwick, Wemyss, Agua, Futura Leathers, Crest Leather, Nene Valley Leathers and more — priced from about £15 per metre to around £120 per metre. Can I supply my own fabric? Yes. We're happy to use customer-supplied fabric. We'll calculate the exact metreage you need before you order — including pattern repeats — so you don't end up short. Note: we can't warrant fabric durability on covers we haven't supplied. Our joiner is building the bench. What do you need from us? Ask your joiner to make boards that fit the seat exactly, then bring or send them to us. We foam and cover the boards so the cushion sits square in the bench without gaps. If the boards are not made yet, send the internal measurements of the seat and we make cushions to fit, with a lining underneath so they sit still. Either way, one photo of the bench and the sizes is enough to quote. How thick should a bench or window seat cushion be? For a bench you sit on for a meal, three inches of a firm, high-resilience foam is the usual answer; two inches is fine for a window seat that gets used for reading and looking out. Anything thinner bottoms out on the board. We cut the foam to the board or the measurements, add a wrap where you want a softer edge, and fit a zip so the cover comes off for cleaning. Do you offer free quotes? Yes. Free, no-obligation quotes by phone, email, WhatsApp, in shop or, for larger jobs, on site. Unsure how it will look? Send photos of the piece, rough sizes, and the style or fabric you have in mind. We will send a written quote with example looks so you can decide with confidence. Looks are a guide (not a guarantee of exact fabric match); final finish is confirmed in the quote.
