Questions people ask about dining chair reupholstery.
Dining chairs are one of the easiest jobs to quote from photographs, but the finish still needs care. A single chair can look fine on its own; a set of six or eight has to match when they are back around the table.
We check the padding, the base, the way the existing cover is fixed and whether the fabric direction needs to be controlled across the full set. If a seat has gone flat, replacing the foam or padding before recovering will usually make the chair feel much better.
Customers often bring one chair into the shop to choose fabric and confirm the quote. If the construction is the same across the set, that gives us enough to price the rest accurately.
For busy family dining rooms we usually recommend hard-wearing weaves or practical wipe-clean options. For formal rooms, we can go more decorative, but we will still talk through wear, cleaning and pattern repeat before you buy fabric.
How much does it cost to reupholster dining chairs?
Most dining chair sets we see have three or four chairs that get used every day and a couple that barely move. The fabric wears unevenly, the foam in the seat pads compresses, and a one-off recover starts to feel like a mismatch. Doing the whole set together costs less per chair and leaves you with a matching set. Drop-in seats are the cheapest job (from around £35 a seat plus fabric), a fully upholstered chair is typically £95 to £145 plus fabric, and button-back chairs £145 to £220 plus fabric. - How long does reupholstery take?
- Most domestic projects take two to four weeks from collection to delivery. Caravans usually run two to three weeks. Single dining chairs are often back within a week. We agree the timeline up front and stick to it.
- Can I choose any fabric or leather?
- You can choose from hundreds of fabrics and leathers in our Stalybridge showroom: Cristina Marrone, Rosemount Fabrics, Ross Fabrics, Sunbury Designs, Warwick, Wemyss, Agua, Futura Leathers, Crest Leather, Nene Valley Leathers and more. Prices run from about £15 per metre to around £120 per metre.
- Can I supply my own fabric?
- Yes. We're happy to use customer-supplied fabric. We'll calculate the exact metreage you need before you order (including pattern repeats) so you don't end up short. Note: we can't warrant fabric durability on covers we haven't supplied.
- What guarantee do you offer?
- Workmanship is guaranteed, with a two-year craftsmanship guarantee on production and contract work. Fabric durability is governed by the supplier's own rub-test rating; we'll explain that when you choose.
